SMHR exists to provide an entertainment and information service for the benefit of the patients, staff and visitors to Stoke Mandeville Hospital - our listeners. We welcome people from all walks of life so that our listeners are well represented. Whilst experience in Radio is always useful, it is not essential, it is your enthusiasm to make a positive contribution to the patients experience at Stoke Mandeville Hospital that is important.

One of the most important and rewarding activities for our volunteers is to visit our listeners in the wards and at other locations on site, to gather requests and to play their choice of music during our regular request shows

Other activities include, vital fundraising events, presenting, producing, and outside broadcasts, and of course we need administrators too. It is a great way to meet new people from the station and among our listeners

Membership subscriptions are currently £30 per year, references will be required and a CRB (Criminal record check) will be made which can take a few weeks. Please take this into account when you apply to join. The Hospital's Volunteer Services Office will be in contact with you in this regard

For more info about different types of membership please click here

If you would like to apply for membership please complete the enquiry form as set out below. We look forward to hearing from you.

Please note: that we do not offer work experience placements as all the members volunteer during their spare time. A minimum of 3 hours per week of volunteering is requested of each member although you are very welcome to put in more time!

Unfortunately, due to insurance restrictions, applications from people under the age of 18 years cannot be accepted.
